Automating an HR Department’s Rote Tasks

Background

The HR department of a privately held healthcare company was inundated with manual payroll processing, report running, and suboptimal workflows. This was causing thousands of hours a year in administrative work.

Goal

Help the HR department automate administrative work and focus on value-add work. 

Execution

  1. Collaborated with HR department leads and outside consultants to implement Workday as the new HRIS.

  2. Took over configuration of Workday reporting and workflows and automated processes that were manually handled before.

  3. Worked with payroll to design a new process to mass upload employee time cards and reduce manual entry during each pay cycle.

  4. Trained HR specialists and coordinators on how to effectively use Workday in their day-to-day roles.

  5. Led a cross-functional team of Workday system administrators to prioritize and implement system fixes and enhancements.

Result

After 18 months, Workday was successfully implemented and shaped into an effective tool that helped shave 2,000+ hours in annual administrative work for HR.
